Sarah Elizabeth Wansley, Director & Artistic Leader

Sarah Elizabeth Wansley directs and develops new plays and musicals, as well as highly theatrical adaptations of classic works. Sarah is currently the BOLD Associate Artistic Director at Northern Stage in White River Junction, Vermont. Previously she was the Artistic Producer at Chautauqua Theater Company and the inaugural recipient of the Cleveland Play House Artistic Directing Fellowship for Women.

Recent directing projects include The Children, Vermont Farm Project, Constellations, Sweat, Spring Awakening and Heisenberg at Northern Stage, Steel Magnolias at Weston Theater Company, The Amish Project by Jessica Dickey at PlayMakers Repertory Company and Egress by Melissa Crespo and Sarah Saltwick at Cleveland Play House. She has directed new work at Chautauqua Theater Company, New York Stage and Film, The Flea Theater, Ensemble Studio Theatre / Youngblood, the La Jolla Playhouse's Without Walls Festival, the McCarter Theatre's Youth Ink Festival, Luna Stage, and Pipeline Theatre Company.

She is a a New Georges Affiliated Artist, a Drama League Resident Artist, a Drama League Directing Fellow alumna and a member of the Lincoln Center Director's Lab. Sarah received her MFA in Directing from UCSD under acclaimed Romanian director Gabor Tompa and a BA in English Literature from Columbia University (summa cum laude). From 2016-2020 she was a faculty member at Fordham University where she taught directing and text analysis; she has taught masterclasses for The Kennedy Center, the Drama League, Chautauqua Institution, Baldwin Wallace University and Case Western University and is currently a Guest Director at Dartmouth College. Upcoming: John Proctor is the Villain at Northern Stage.
